‘There is new life in the soil for every man. There is healing in the trees for tired minds and for our overburdened spirits, there is strength in the hills, if only we will lift up our eyes. Remember that nature is your great restorer’. – Calvin Coolidge 1924

A speech written almost 100 years ago and applicable today more so than ever.

The word ‘Fragile’ holds so much meaning. It is at once weak and strong, thruthfully and painful; it speaks of tenderness and openness of experience and loss and of being.

‘Fragile Lands’ is an emotional collection of images inspired by my surroundings and my rural outlook in the South Waikato. I get to enjoy afternoon strolls with breathtaking views, a bike ride up Websters Road for contemplation or driving to see the sunset at the top of Hetherington Road Graveyard, or just stepping out my door and capturing the sun setting over the hills. I feel at peace more often than not as I count my blessings for living in this part of the world.

My thoughts are changing too as I am learning to enjoy freedom. I have given myself permission to express in not only paint, but also to use other tools like photography, ink and pencil in this soft collection of sunset and quiet.
